What is the Green Tux project?
The importance of outdoor spaces to children’s education and social, spiritual and emotional health is what led to the creation of the The Green Tux Project. Our children deserve an outdoor environment as educational and inspirational as the classrooms inside.
It began when a group of parents learned the playground at St Joseph had been deemed unsafe and was slated to be removed. It was the perfect time to redesign the school grounds. We envisioned transforming it into a healthy, natural place for learning, studying and socializing. With the knowledge of what we could achieve for our children for generations to come, we took on the fundraising goal of $400,000, contributions coming from the school board, the city, in-kind donations and a capital fundraising campaign. We are going to get to the top of the Tux by July 2011!
I want to be informed!
Be part of something amazing, a groundbreaking new way to look at our schoolyard property. Let's get our children back outside.
Who are involved?
We have involved the students, parents, teachers and the community in what will be a sustainable transformation. It will benefit both the school and the broader community over the long term.
